Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act-It’s a Civil Rights Thing

7:00 PM » 9:00 PM

What is 504? In a nutshell, for a student with a disability: Access and opportunity as equitable as their non-disabled peers. In this workshop the following questions will be answered: What is a 504 plan? Who qualifies for a 504 plan? How does a student qualify? This workshop will cover the basics of the civil rights law, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Participants will learn what a 504 plan is, how to request one, and the difference between a 504 plan and an IEP (Individualized Education Program). Participants will develop an understanding of how a student is determined eligible for a 504 plan, how the plan can be used, what can be included in the plan, what are the parent and student rights, and the options available if a disagreement arises.
